Skills
Adaptability
Traveling through six countries in three weeks improved my ability to adapt. Learning to navigate in cities where I didn't understand street signs well, adjusting to different cultures, and being ready to move from one country to another in a short amount of time helped develop this skill. I now feel that I can adjust to new environments more quickly to be successful wherever I am!
Organization
My study abroad and research experiences have both contributed to my organizational skills. In the lab, everything must be properly labeled and placed in the correct locations. On the trip, keeping my luggage organized was essential for traveling efficiently from one country to the next, without losing important items. Organization is an important ability to have in all aspects of life.
Leadership
I coordinated the team shirt development and distribution for the study abroad trip. I came up with a design for the t-shirt and collaborated with other study abroad members to tweak the idea . I created google forms to collect shirt sizes and kept spreadsheets to keep track of deliveries and payments. I also ordered, picked up, and distributed the shirts to the study abroad group. This experience taught me project management and demonstrated that I can lead a group.
Communication
In the Conversation Partners Program, I speak with students from other countries as they learn English. On the study abroad trip, I presented the life of a scientist in an autobiographical format to my peers, allowing me to practice delivering scientific information in a conversational manner. I believe I can now communicate more effectively with diverse audiences, including people who speak different native languages.
